MSP LinkedIn Ads: Targeting, Settings and Cost Data [2026]

Six decisions set the price of a LinkedIn click for an MSP, and creative is not one of them. Measured across 203 advertiser accounts and $4.13 million of IT targeted spend, the gap between the best and worst version of the same campaign is a factor of four. This page is each decision with the number attached, in the order you make them inside Campaign Manager.

How this was measured

Every figure on this page comes from the Kiin Intelligence panel: 203 advertiser accounts, 1,817 campaigns and $4.13 million of spend across 93.2 million impressions, all of it targeting IT, managed services and technology audiences on LinkedIn in the twelve months to 7 September 2026. Medians are taken across advertiser accounts rather than pooled. LinkedIn Audience Network delivery is excluded throughout.

A campaign counts toward a facet if that facet is part of its targeting, so a campaign aimed at both directors and owners appears in both rows. These are not exclusive cells and not an experiment: they are what 203 advertisers paid. Rows on fewer than about ten accounts are flagged as directional.

Which industry facet to target

LinkedIn offers nine facets that all describe roughly the same IT buyer, and they do not cost the same. This is the decision most MSPs make in four seconds by picking the obvious one.

Targeting facetCPMLanding page CTRCost per landing page clickEngagement rateAccounts
IT System Operations and Maintenance$34.850.24%$16.643.73%24
Computer Networking Products$26.560.05%$17.231.78%26
IT Services and IT Consulting$31.960.15%$18.012.11%121
IT System Data Services$35.780.26%$18.373.88%23
IT System Design Services$32.190.18%$31.023.88%23
IT System Training and Support$29.950.09%$49.064.44%20
  • IT System Operations and Maintenance is the best cell on this table at $16.64, and it is where a managed infrastructure buyer sits. IT Services and IT Consulting, the default with 121 accounts behind it, costs $18.01.
  • IT System Training and Support engages at 4.44%, the highest rate in the whole panel, and costs $49.06 a click. A 0.09% click through rate does that. It will be the best looking campaign in your account and the least productive.
  • IT System Design Services costs $31.02 against Operations at $16.64, an 86% premium, and both engage at nearly the same rate on the same number of accounts. There is no quality signal justifying the gap; test both.
  • Computer Networking Products runs a 0.05% landing page click through rate, the lowest facet we measure anywhere. Do not point a traffic campaign at it however cheap the $26.56 CPM looks.

Which seniority to target

The default is CXO and the default is the worst cell.

SeniorityCPMLanding page CTRCost per landing page clickAccounts
Senior$32.830.39%$12.2226
Partner$56.350.31%$13.1744
Manager$39.550.29%$15.1141
Owner$50.470.30%$16.3447
VP$51.630.20%$19.1558
Director$44.470.20%$20.2959
CXO$58.460.18%$27.5061
  • CXO is the most expensive reach at a $58.46 CPM and the least responsive at 0.18%, which compounds into a $27.50 click. Owner costs $16.34 and clicks two thirds more often.
  • The ladder is not about status, it is about who reads the feed. Owner, Partner, Manager and Senior all click through at 0.29% to 0.39%. VP, Director and CXO all sit at 0.18% to 0.20%. The break is sharp and it is between people who do the work and people who are pitched all day.
  • For an MSP selling to a thirty person business, the buyer is the Owner. That is both the correct target and the cheaper one, which is a rare combination.

Which job function to target

Job functionCost per landing page clickLanding page CTREngagement rateAccounts

Product management$20.790.12%2.16%20
Consulting$23.710.26%1.41%15
Marketing$56.650.11%3.90%31

Information technology is the obvious choice and it is unremarkable at $18.68. The two worth knowing about are program and project management at $11.52 with the best click through rate on the table, which suits anything sold as a migration or rollout, and marketing at $56.65, which is a trap unless marketing teams are genuinely your buyer. Marketers engage at 3.90% and click at 0.11%: they read the feed for a living and treat leaving it as work.

Which company size to target

The largest effect on this page, and the one MSPs most often get wrong by aiming above their delivery model.

Company sizeCPMLanding page CTRCost per landing page clickCost per leadAccounts
2 to 10 employees$30.780.39%$9.46$25223
11 to 50 employees$36.420.25%$22.03$11654
51 to 200 employees$33.810.15%$29.00$21373
201 to 500 employees$38.710.12%$35.93$26278
1,001 to 5,000 employees$40.760.14%$33.18$42265
10,001+ employees$52.230.22%$34.43$39744

Cost per lead runs from $116 to $422 across this table, a 264% spread, and CPM climbs steadily from $30.78 to $52.23. If your case studies and pricing speak to a fifty person business, targeting enterprise pays a premium on both halves of the equation at once.

Which objective to select

One dropdown, a fourfold difference in click cost.

ObjectiveCPMLanding page CTRCost per landing page clickEngagement rateAccounts
Website visits$47.380.41%$10.540.82%69
Website conversions$77.260.55%$14.491.03%19
Engagement$45.520.21%$24.053.96%88
Video views$22.280.04%$42.190.57%20
Brand awareness$32.770.07%$45.380.51%29
  • Website visits returns $10.54 a click, brand awareness $45.38. A 331% difference from a dropdown, on the same audiences in the same sector.
  • Engagement is the most used objective here, on 88 accounts, at $24.05 a click. It buys a 3.96% engagement rate against 0.82% for website visits, which is why it survives internal reviews, and a click through rate half as good, which is why it should not.
  • Website conversions has the highest CPM on the table at $77.26 and still beats engagement on click cost, because its 0.55% click through rate is the best measured. If your conversion tracking is genuinely working, this is the objective.
  • Brand awareness runs 0.07%. Buy it for reach and frequency against a defined account list, or do not buy it. It is not a traffic objective and reporting clicks from it is meaningless.

Which format to run

FormatCPMLanding page CTRCost per landing page clickEngagement rateAccounts
Carousel$23.780.27%$9.260.70%9
Single image and text update$44.450.29%$19.261.62%130

Single video$45.250.09%$43.621.63%56
Document ad$33.340.04%$184.066.10%11
  • Single video costs $43.62 a click against $19.26 for a single image update, a 127% premium on an almost identical CPM. Video buys attention in the feed and does not move people out of it. That does not make video wrong, it makes it a top of funnel instrument priced accordingly.
  • Document ads engage at 6.10%, the highest of any format here, and cost $184.06 per landing page click. Run them to build retargeting pools and demonstrate expertise. Never judge one on traffic.
  • Carousel returns $9.26 on nine accounts. Directional, but the cheapest click in the whole dataset and almost nobody in this sector runs it. Worth a small test.

The two settings to change today

Turn audience expansion off

Accounts running with expansion enabled paid $45.00 per landing page click against $24.19 with it off. That comparison is 17 accounts against 151, so the size of the gap is unproven and the direction is consistent with everything else we measure. Expansion widens delivery beyond the audience you selected, which in a sector where the facet choice is worth more than the creative is precisely backwards.

Report landing page clicks, not clicks

LinkedIn’s default click field counts social engagement, reactions, comments, shares, profile clicks, alongside genuine traffic. In a sector engaging at 2.31% and clicking through to websites at 0.20%, that difference is roughly tenfold, and every cost per click ever reported off the default field in an IT account has been inflated by it. There is no fix beyond selecting the right field and re-baselining what you thought you knew.

A campaign structure that follows from the data

  1. One audience, defined by company size first. Pick the band that matches your delivery, and lead with IT System Operations and Maintenance over the IT Services default.
  2. Owner, Manager or Senior on seniority. Not CXO, unless your buyer genuinely is one.
  3. Cold layer on the website visits objective, single image updates, expansion off. Target $10.54 to $22.03 a click depending on how narrow the audience is. The job of this layer is the retargeting pool, not leads.
  4. Document ads and video into the same cold audience for distribution. Budget them against reach and engagement at $33 to $45 CPM, never against clicks.
  5. Retargeting layer carries the ask. $11.96 a click. Assessment offers, security reviews, meetings.
  6. Account list layer for familiarity, feeding sales. Do not attach a cost per lead target to it: lists run $960 a lead against $161 cold.
  7. Report landing page clicks, influenced pipeline by account, and a self reported attribution field. Engagement rate is the sector, not your work.

Frequently asked questions

How much do LinkedIn Ads cost for an MSP?

Across 203 IT and managed services advertiser accounts, the median is a $44.50 CPM and $26.13 per landing page click, but the range that matters is $9.26 to $184.06 depending on the decisions you make before launch. A well built MSP campaign targeting small companies on the website visits objective should land between $10 and $22 a click. A poorly built one on brand awareness with video creative will pay $43 to $45.

Which LinkedIn targeting facet is best for an MSP?

IT System Operations and Maintenance at $16.64 per landing page click, which beats the IT Services and IT Consulting default at $18.01 and is where a managed infrastructure buyer actually sits. Avoid IT System Training and Support: it engages at 4.44%, the highest rate in our entire panel, and costs $49.06 a click because only 0.09% of the audience clicks through. Avoid Computer Networking Products for traffic at a 0.05% click through rate.

Should MSPs target CXOs or IT managers on LinkedIn?

Managers and owners, in most cases. CXO carries the highest CPM in the dataset at $58.46, the weakest click through rate at 0.18%, and the most expensive click at $27.50. Owner costs $16.34 and clicks through at 0.30%, Manager $15.11 at 0.29%. The split in the data is sharp: people who do the work click, people who are pitched all day do not.

What objective should an MSP use for LinkedIn Ads?

Website visits for traffic at $10.54 a click, or website conversions at $14.49 if your conversion tracking genuinely works, since it delivers the best click through rate measured at 0.55%. Avoid brand awareness for anything judged on clicks, at $45.38 and a 0.07% click through rate. Engagement is the most popular objective in this cluster and costs $24.05 a click, which buys a flattering 3.96% engagement rate and half the traffic.

Do video ads work for MSPs on LinkedIn?

For distribution, yes. For traffic, they are expensive: $43.62 per landing page click against $19.26 for a single image update, on a nearly identical CPM, because video runs a 0.09% click through rate against 0.29%. Use video to build the retargeting pool and establish credibility, then convert on that pool at $11.96 a click. Judging a video campaign on cost per click prices it against a job it is not doing.

Should I turn off audience expansion on MSP campaigns?

Yes. Accounts with expansion on paid $45.00 per landing page click against $24.19 with it off. The sample behind that is 17 accounts against 151, so treat the magnitude as directional, but expansion works by delivering beyond the audience you chose, and in this sector the facet and company size decisions are worth more than anything else on the page. Giving that away to a delivery setting is the wrong trade.

What is the minimum LinkedIn Ads budget for an MSP?

Around $2,000 a month of media, pointed at one audience and one offer. At the $22.03 click that SMB targeting returns that is roughly ninety landing page visits, which is a familiarity layer rather than a lead engine, and it only works if you leave it running for two quarters. At $5,000 a month you can run cold and retargeting layers simultaneously, which is when the $11.96 warm click starts doing the work.

Why is my MSP LinkedIn cost per click so high?

Check four things in this order. Objective: brand awareness and video views return $42 to $45 a click where website visits returns $10.54. Metric: if you are reading LinkedIn’s default click field rather than landing page clicks, the number is inflated roughly tenfold in this sector. Format: video is 127% dearer than a single image update and document ads are $184 a click. Expansion: on costs $45.00 against $24.19 off. Creative is almost never the answer in an IT account.
