Optimised or even ad rotation makes no measurable difference.
When the same advertiser runs the same objective both ways, rotating single image ads evenly cost 7% more per landing page click than LinkedIn's optimised rotation, with an interval from 3% cheaper to 16% dearer. Landing page CTR and CPM did not move either.

Pick rotation for the read, not for the price.
What the setting does
Optimised rotation lets LinkedIn send most impressions to the ad it predicts will perform best. Rotate evenly splits impressions across the ads. In 154 paired accounts the price of a real visit was the same either way, within noise.
Why it matters
Optimised rotation often picks a winner on a few hundred impressions, then starves the others, so you never learn whether they were worse. Rotating evenly costs nothing measurable and gives every ad a fair sample.
What to do
Use rotate evenly while you are testing messages, and judge the ads on landing page CTR and cost per landing page click once each has a few thousand impressions. Switch to optimised once you have retired the losers, if you prefer. For a worked copy test, see question hooks in LinkedIn ad copy.
Where the number comes from
Kiin Labs panel, 1,000+ advertiser accounts and $65M+ of LinkedIn spend. Accounts that ran both settings on the same objective and format in the twelve months to 30 September 2026, 20+ landing page clicks or 5,000+ impressions on each side, Audience Network excluded.
Questions about this number.
Should I use optimised or rotate evenly on LinkedIn?
Rotate evenly while testing. In 154 paired accounts, even rotation cost 7% more per landing page click than optimised, a difference that is not significant (interval −3% to +16%), and it gives every ad a fair sample.
Does LinkedIn optimised ad rotation lower costs?
Not measurably. Cost per landing page click, landing page CTR and CPM were all within noise of even rotation in the same account and objective.
Where is the ad rotation setting in LinkedIn Campaign Manager?
In the campaign's ads step, under ad rotation: "Optimise for performance" or "Rotate ads evenly".
Does ad rotation matter for thought leader ads?
No measurable effect in 61 paired accounts: +5% per landing page click, interval −18% to +17%.
