Median advertiser account. Thought leader ad follows go to the author, not the company page. For the other formats the follow is a by-product of an ad bought for clicks, views or leads, so the figure is spend per follow, not a price.

Followers are cheap to buy. Whether they are worth it is the real question.
How follower ads work
Follower ads are dynamic ads in the right rail, personalised with the member's photo and a Follow button. The median account earned 0.10 follows per 1,000 impressions and paid $14.59 per follow. They are cheap per impression because right-rail inventory is priced differently from the feed (see cost by format).
Why other formats look so expensive
Feed ads are not bought for follows, so dividing their spend by follows gives a big number that measures nothing useful. Do not judge a single image or thought leader campaign on follower growth.
What to do
Buy followers only if the page is a channel you will use: organic posts that your buyers read. A company page follower does not appear in any ad audience you cannot already target, so for pipeline the money is usually better spent on thought leader ads or a retargeting pool.
