108 LinkedIn Ads questions, answered with data from 1,000+ accounts

How to read this page
Every question we are asked about LinkedIn ads, answered in one paragraph with a number, the number of accounts behind it and a link to the table it comes from. All figures are from Kiin Labs' 2026 panel (1,000+ advertiser accounts, $58M of spend, 8 September 2025 to 7 September 2026): the median advertiser account, never a pooled total, LinkedIn Audience Network excluded, every "X beats Y" paired inside the same account. Cost per lead is always split into content offers and demo requests; every CTR and cost per click is on landing page clicks unless it says total. 014How much should I budget for LinkedIn ads a month?

About $4,000 a month in media (£3,000 in the UK) for a full-funnel test with three campaigns, $10,000 a month for a working programme, and $30,000 to $100,000+ for a scaled account. Size the daily budget at $1 to $2 per 1,000 members in a cold audience and widen the audience before raising it.

At $10 to $25 a day a content offer gets its first lead in about 3 days and 77% of campaigns have one by day 30; a demo offer takes 12 days and 36% of demo campaigns never get one. Even at $100 to $250 a day only 46% of demo campaign-months produce a lead a week.

Yes: in the same account the form runs 55% lower cost per lead than a landing page, and 82% lower on content offers; a demo form converts at 2% in the feed and 40% in a message ad, so the format works when the ask matches the placement. Whether the leads become pipeline needs CRM data and is the next chapter of the study.

032How many fields should a LinkedIn lead gen form have?

Three or four. Field count barely moves completion (9.0% at three or fewer, 9.9% at four, 4.0% at eight or more; +16% short vs long paired, not significant), but one field does: a phone number cuts completion by 66% and raises cost per lead 135% in the same account.

033Should I ask for a phone number on a LinkedIn lead gen form?

Only if a salesperson will dial it. Paired within account, the phone field cut completion by 66% (−83% to −46%) and raised cost per lead by 135%, in 24 of 27 accounts. The cross-panel table shows the opposite because the cheapest accounts happen to ask for phone; the paired number is the effect.

The landing page wins when the offer is a meeting and the prospect needs to see pricing or a calendar first, and when you want the visitor in a website retargeting audience.

040How long does LinkedIn keep lead gen form leads?

90 days in Campaign Manager, downloadable as CSV per form or per account. Anything longer needs a CRM integration (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive, Marketo, Zoho, Dynamics natively; Zapier or a webhook for the rest), connected before launch because LinkedIn counts a lead at submission even if the sync fails.

076How much does it cost to target marketers on LinkedIn?

$41.52 CPM (the dearest function), $20.93 per landing page click and $257 per lead at the best feed completion in the series (9.1%; 16.7% on a document ad at $181), at the median account targeting the marketing function. The UK is $58 CPM, the highest UK figure of any function.

078How much does it cost to target CEOs and the C-suite on LinkedIn?

$47.45 CPM, the dearest impression in the series, but $15.73 per landing page click because executives click through at 0.29%, and $209 per lead (30.0% completion on a document ad). Two thirds of impressions on CXO-targeted campaigns land on directors and VPs.

080Which audience is cheapest to target on LinkedIn?

By function, sales ($33.65 CPM, $14.68 per landing page click), then HR ($36.67, $16.86). By company size, SMB ($39 CPM, $12.57 per click). By lead, SMB targeting at $125, then C-suite at $209 and HR at $205.

081Do LinkedIn ads reach the seniority you target?

Only partly. On campaigns targeting CXO or owner seniority, directors and VPs received 24 million impressions against 4.5 million for CXOs and owners, because the filter usually includes the lower tiers and LinkedIn serves the larger, cheaper ones first. Every audience cut shows the same drift one level down.

082Does targeting senior people cost more on LinkedIn?

Per impression, yes: director-and-above filters raise CPM 22 to 47% in every function cut. Per click, no: landing page CTR is the same or better. Per lead it depends on who fills in forms: senior targeting lowers cost per lead in marketing ($205 against $304) and sales ($142 against $319) and raises it in HR ($264 against $148).

084How big should a LinkedIn audience be?

Audience size does not move cost per lead or completion (rank correlation −0.03 across accounts, −0.13 within); from 7,000 to 960,000 people completion sits at 10 to 14%. It moves CPM: under 10,000 members $73, over 300,000 $24. Keep cold feed audiences under about 100,000 and size the budget to the audience.

087Should I turn off audience expansion and the LinkedIn Audience Network?

Yes, both, on every B2B campaign. Audience expansion changes cost per lead by −6% (not significant) and dilutes a list built on purpose; the Audience Network took $274,000 of spend off-platform across 107 audited accounts, up to 99% of a budget in the worst case. Both are on by default and can re-enable on save.

088Which company sizes should I exclude on LinkedIn?

One-employee and 2-to-10-employee companies, unless you sell to sole traders: across every audience cut their impressions cost 5 to 20% more than the campaign average on the delivered side and click through to landing pages at a fifth to a third of the rate of larger companies.

Bidding, objectives and settings

Auto 'maximise views' beats a manual CPV bid by 21% on CPM.

091Does the lead generation objective cost more on LinkedIn?

Yes: 40% higher CPM than website visits, 81% higher than brand awareness, and the same as engagement, in the same account and month. The form has to earn that premium on completion; on the lead generation objective single image runs $74 CPM, video $72, carousel $61, document $53.

094Does enhanced conversion bidding help on LinkedIn lead gen?

Directionally: cost per lead −18% and CPM −19% against maximum delivery, both not significant at 24 and 38 accounts. Worth a test on accounts sending 50 or more qualified leads a month back through the Conversions API; below that there is nothing for it to learn from.

095Does audience expansion help on LinkedIn?

No measurable effect: cost per lead −6% and CPM −10%, not significant, on 10 to 13 accounts. It adds members LinkedIn considers similar to a list you built on purpose; turn it off.

096How many creatives should a LinkedIn campaign have?

Three to five; running 4 to 6 instead of 2 to 3 has no effect on cost per lead (−8%, not significant, 25 of 47 accounts). Refresh cadence matters more than count: every two weeks on audiences under 10,000, monthly over 100,000.

097Should a LinkedIn ad open with a question?

No: ads that open with a question get 64% fewer leads per impression than ads that open with a statement, and naming the reader's job title in the first line ('CMOs', 'marketers') cuts leads per impression by 54%. Saying 'free' does nothing measurable. State the offer in the first line.

098Should I use LinkedIn's Accelerate campaigns or Auto-Targeting?

Not on a B2B account with a target list. Accelerate builds the audience (expanded), the creative and the bidding (maximum delivery, Audience Network on) from a URL, which are the three settings we switch off by hand. Acceptable for a small business with no list and no time.

Campaign Manager and reporting

099What changed in LinkedIn Campaign Manager in 2026?

The hierarchy was renamed (Campaign Group is now Campaign, Campaign is now Ad Set; the API is unchanged), the Companies tab replaced the Company Engagement Report with paid and organic engagement per company and one-click list building, Measurement Insights and CRM revenue attribution arrived, and AI features (Accelerate, Auto-Targeting, Draft with AI, Flexible Ad Creation) plus Book an Appointment in lead forms and Boost from mobile.

100What is the Companies tab in LinkedIn Campaign Manager?

Under Plan: every company on your lists with an engagement level (very high to low), members targeted, paid impressions, paid clicks and engagements, paid leads, organic impressions and engagement, and website visits over 7 to 180 days, with size and industry filters and one-click company list creation. It is account-level: it does not say which ad set produced the engagement.

101What is the difference between Campaign Manager and Business Manager?

Campaign Manager is the ad account where campaigns, audiences, ads, billing, tracking and reports live. Business Manager sits above it and controls which people, ad accounts, Pages, matched audiences and partners belong to a company or agency. One account and one person needs only Campaign Manager; more than one of either needs Business Manager.

Source: LinkedIn Campaign Manager tutorial · LinkedIn help centre

102Why is my LinkedIn campaign not spending?

In order of likelihood: the bid is below the floor for the audience; the ad is in review or rejected; the campaign (group) above the ad set is paused or ended; the audience is too small or narrow for the format; the daily budget cannot clear one auction at the bid; billing has failed; a conversion-optimised ad set has too few conversions to learn from. Raise the bid 10% before touching anything else.

103How should I report LinkedIn ads CTR?

On landing page clicks: add the 'Clicks to Landing Page' column in Campaign Manager (Columns → Customise) and compute the rate from that, or use the landingPageClicks field in the API. Report total CTR alongside it only as an engagement figure. Benchmarks: 0.23% median, 0.38% good, 0.60% exceptional landing page CTR.

104Why does LinkedIn report more leads than I received?

LinkedIn counts a lead at submission even if the CRM sync fails or the integration was connected after launch; duplicates from the same member are handled differently in Campaign Manager and the CRM; and leads older than 90 days drop out of the download. Export the CSV weekly until the integration is proven.

Source: LinkedIn is reporting leads you never got · Kiin client audits

105Are LinkedIn lead gen form opens the same as leads?

No. oneClickLeadFormOpens counts a member tapping the ad and seeing the pre-filled form; oneClickLeads counts a submission. Only submissions are leads. Reporting opens as leads makes cost per lead look several times better than it is: at the median a feed form needs 12 opens per content lead and 48 per demo lead.

Source: Lead Gen Forms Benchmarks 2026 · 194 / 123 accounts

106Why does LinkedIn's frequency column understate frequency?

Because it is per campaign and campaigns share members: campaigns report a frequency of 3.5 while the account delivers 9.5 over 90 days. Use the reach report at account level, or the Kiin Intelligence account-level frequency, to see what a member is actually shown.

107How do I track conversions in LinkedIn Campaign Manager?

Install the Insight Tag (script or Google Tag Manager), create Website Actions for button clicks and page visits without code, send server-side and offline events (meetings, opportunities, closed won from HubSpot or Salesforce) through the Conversions API, and connect the CRM natively. Attach the right conversion to each ad set and report post-click and post-view separately.

108Which LinkedIn reporting columns matter?

Clicks to landing page (not clicks), landing page CTR and cost per landing page click, reach and frequency, form completion rate and leads (not form opens), opens and open rate for message ads, and the breakdown by Audience Network on or off. Kiin's custom set: spend, impressions, landing page clicks, LP CTR, LP CPC, reach, frequency, leads, CPL, post-click conversions.
